Single Tooth vs Full Arch Implants

Single Tooth vs Full Arch Implants

A missing tooth can affect more than just your confidence. Sure, you may not feel that comfortable smiling knowing that you will reveal a toothless grin, but the consequences extend past your appearance. A missing tooth can also affect your speech, lead to jaw bone recession or impact the position and alignment of other teeth. This is why it's so important to not wait for too long until you get a restorative solution.

Dental implants are a popular and effective way of restoring one or more missing teeth. An implant will look and act like a natural tooth and can provide a permanent fix.

Depending on the number of teeth you are missing, you may need to choose between a single tooth implant and a full arch implant. Here's what you need to know about the difference between the two.

Types of Dental Implants

As we said, you may have to choose between two dental implants options:

  • Single Tooth Dental Implant

As the name suggests, the implant will replace individual missing teeth. If you only have one missing tooth or if the missing teeth are not next to each other, then this may be the best option for you.

A metal post will be inserted into your jawbone and after a healing process of about six months, the dentist will add the abutment and crown to complete the implant.

  • Full Arch Dental Implant

If you have more missing teeth and they are located next to each other, then your dentist may recommend this option.

The dentist will use between four and six individual implants that will act as support for the entire arch. Then, they will design a set of implant-supported dentures that can be attached to the implants.

Which Option Is Best for Me?

The answer is not that simple. Even if you have just one missing tooth, if the dentist determines that more teeth are severely damaged and need to be extracted, then they may recommend a full arch implant.

On the other hand, if you only have a few missing teeth but have good oral health in general, then single tooth implants may work best for you.

So, it all depends on your oral health. That's why the best thing you can do is to schedule an appointment with your dentist and discuss your options after a thorough examination.
